A Little Long Island: I’m Back

Hey, hello there. Long time no see. I’m back and here’s what’s been happening.

  • My job is insane. I work at the Abercrombie & Fitch at Roosevelt Field Mall originally as a keyholder, but now MIT. This job has taught me so much about customer service, sales, merchandising, business strategies, and time management. That all sounds like a cliché resume line, but that’s the truth. The people that I work with have quickly become some of my favorite people on this planet. Retail is a little crazy at times, especially in the mall that I work in. I’m constantly running from Hempstead to Garden City and back. I’ve never appreciated my 30 miles to the gallon car so much.

One of my favorite decorations at Roosevelt 🙂

  • I’ve fallen so deeply in love. What started out as a crush quickly turned into a relationship, into love, into one of the best friendships I’ve ever known. He’s the best teammate I could ever ask for. I wish I could say that he loves me in the way I always dreamed of someone loving me, but to be honest, he loves me in ways I didn’t even know were possible.
  • I finished my first semester of GRAD SCHOOL. Yeah, can you believe that? I took three amazing classes, turned in the short story I’ve been working on for almost a year, have a killer manuscript in the works, and made connections with some very intelligent and aspirational people.

Also my new favorite sweatshirt!

  • Some of my favorite things we read this semester:
    • “A&P” by John Updike
    • “Mrs. Sens” by Jhumpa Lahiri
    • “Gilbert’s Mother” by William Trevor
    • “What We Talk About When We Talk About Love” by Raymond Carver
    • “Found Objects” by Jennifer Egan
    • And anything, and I mean anything and everything, by Carolyn Forche
  • I had my first poetry reading! Shout out to KGB Bar for hosting the Hofstra students. I love exploring new parts of the city, but even more than that, I love reading my work. One of my goals when I turned 22 was to become a better reading in terms of my poetry, and this was a great opportunity to try that out. Here’s to lots more readings in the future.
  • I had a beautiful day in the city with my Mimi which hasn’t happened since I was thirteen. I loved being back in one of our favorite places together, even if it was ten degrees.
  • Goals: do more poetry readings, do more reading in general, do more walking, do more loving. In summation, do more.

A mimosa a day keeps the doctor away 😉

One of my new found favorite places in Brooklyn!

Jones Beach=one of my favorite spots

Gotta love those pre-working parking lot shots

  • Some of my favorite items these past couple months?
    • Buxom Lip Glosses and Lip Crayons. I am in LOVE with this little box set I was gifted for Christmas. They glide on so smoothly, plus the lip gloss feels minty on your lips as you apply which I love.
    • These light-up message boxes that are in my header picture are so adorable! My mom gave me this one for Christmas and I adore it. Anyone who knows me knows I have a deep fascination with lights. I hate hate triple hate overhead lighting so twinkly lights and little boxes like this are my best friend. You can write such cute messages on them and they give any room that perfect night-time glow.
    • Turtlenecks. Turtlenecks. Turtlenecks. I can’t get enough of these guys. Seriously, look in my closet. It’s just turtlenecks. I think pairing them with jeans is such a sleek look for any day running errands or heading into the city. I also love putting them under dresses to add extra warmth. Here are a few I love!
      • These Abercrombie ones are my favorite. I have the plain white and pink colors, but hurry up and shop soon before they are all gone!
      • My ribbed turtleneck from Gap isn’t quite like this one, but I adore the detail on the neck. I think it’s so girly and fun.
      • I don’t actually own this turtleneck, but I’ve been eyeing it up for weeks! Hoping it goes on sale soon, but if you’d like to purchase it now here’s the link.

So there’s a little where and why as to me not keeping up with my blog. I’ve been a tad distracted, but I’m here and I’m ready. On this day last year I relaunched the entire website to be more user friendly and to my aesthetic, so I figured what better day than today to catalyze myself back into blogging. Expect a lot more articles about my life, my thoughts, my feelings, and my fashion soon. Here’s to 2018, everyone!
